Dear Filmmakers,

Welcome to the Illinois Film Office online! We are proud to represent Illinois -- home to a nationally renowned crew base, actors, and industry vendors, as well as our aggressive 30% film tax credit. With experts on locations, housing, and tax incentives, casting and crew hotlines, the IFO is here to help make your creative vision a reality.

We are, of course, anchored by one of the most beautiful, sophisticated cities in the world. But our locations go way beyond the scope of Chicago’s iconic skyline, world famous architecture, gritty back alleys and unique, historic neighborhoods. We also boast breathtaking natural vistas, mid-size industrial centers, picturesque farmland and small towns seemingly frozen in time. We have rivers, prairies, forest preserves and 58 miles of pristine Lake Michigan beaches.

Whether you’re producing a small budget indie, grand scale blockbuster, or anything in between, we’re eager to share our extraordinary production community with you.

So spend some time getting to know us. Learn what some of the most famous and talented producers, directors, writers and actors all know – Illinois is a world class film destination – the perfect place for your next production.

Warmest Regards,

Betsy Steinberg

Dear Filmmakers,

Here in Illinois we are proud of our long tradition of excellence in film, television and commercial production. Our state’s foray into film actually dates back to 1897 when William Selig, a former magician and theatrical troupe manager, was making and showing films in Chicago. Then there was Essanay Studios made famous by two of its busiest stars of the silent screen -- Charlie Chaplin and Gloria Swanson. In 1907, the Selig Polyscope Company built a production facility at Irving Park Road and Western Avenue that covered three acres and employed over two hundred people.

And now, over a century later, we are proud that the film industry continues to contribute richly to our economy by attracting business and providing thousands of job opportunities for Illinoisans. With our strong talent, varied locations, infrastructure and incentives, Illinois is the perfect location for your filming needs. Since Illinois’ first Film Tax Credit was enacted in 2004, we have hosted scores of television shows and movies that have strengthened our local economy with over half a billion dollars and employed thousands of people from carpenters to electricians to painters, welders, and hair and make-up artists just to name a few. The ripple effect of this activity can be seen in hundreds of businesses around the state.

I welcome you to Illinois and hope that your next project will become part of our distinguished film history.

Warmest Regards,

Warren Ribley
Director
Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity
